I think I say it every year, but this has got to be the most stunning spring I have ever seen. For the last few years, it always seems like we get one 90-degree day in March and then it's like spring has decided to happen ALL at once. Then 9 months of summer. But this year? It's like a gentle crescendo of budding flowers and sweet spring breezes. And I am here for it.
What better way to celebrate renewal than with a brand new (sort of) website? If you are someone who knows me in real life or happens to be following along on my art adventures, you will know that there have been a lot of changes. I chipped away at an art business for years. Then made the leap to go full-time until my website and online shop were established. Then I got a whole new career while selling art on the weekends. Until finally...it all just...stopped.
There are so many reasons for leaving my art career on a cliff hanger but the simplest explanation: I was tired. Tired of hustling. Tired of selling my work. Tired of being seen but not seen enough. Tired of focusing all of my creative energy on something that wasn't fulfilling. Tired of trying to keep up with an online life that I don't think I ever really truly wanted. So, I took a major step back. I made the decision to climb into my shell and make art for me again. To study, to practice, and to enjoy. To take the pressure away that I put on myself. It has been so wonderful to grow a more robust sketchbook practice again. And to share my work with friends because I WANT to. Not because I think I need to.
While I don't feel like I'm fully ready to dive head-first into the Artist role, I am excited to update my portfolio and finally share what I have been working on for nearly two years. I'm hoping to grow with the seasons and share what I've learned in a gentle, organic way. The thing that I love about art is that it's ALWAYS there when you need it, in whatever capacity.
I just want to thank every single person who has ever looked at my work, shared it, encouraged it....it means so much that I am able to find time to lean into my creative side and make connections along the way. I hope that you are all enjoying this absolutely delicious spring and that we can roll into summer with fresh minds and energy to burn.
To end this blog, I wanted to share a few of my favorite things this spring so far: flowers, traveling to see family, fresh recipes, new books, a potential new hobby, and a simply delightful playlist that is meant to be played around a fire with a Yeungling in hand.
